Super-convergence of Discontinuous Galerkin Method Applied to the Navier-Stokes Equations

چکیده
The practical benefits of the hyper-accuracy properties of the discontinuous Galerkin method are examined. In particular, we demonstrate that some flow attributes exhibit super-convergence even in the absence of any post-procesing technique. Theoretical analysis suggest that flow features that are dominated by global propogation speeds and decay or growth rates should be super-convergent. Several discrete forms of the discontinuous Galerkin method are applied to the simulation of unsteady viscous flow over a twodimensional cylinder. Convergence of the period of the naturally occurring oscillation is examined and shown to converge at 2p+1, where p is the polynomial degree of the discontinuous Galerkin basis. Comparisons are made between the different discretizations and with theoretical analysis.

Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin Method– Steady, Non-Isothermal Fluid Flow Applications
Abstract : The meshless local Petrov-Galerkin method with unity as the weighting function has been applied to the solution of the Navier-Stokes and energy equations. The Navier-Stokes equations in terms of the stream function and vorticity formulation together with the energy equation are solved for a driven cavity flow for moderate Reynolds numbers using different point distributions. The L2-...
متن کاملA Hybridizable Discontinuous Galerkin Method for the Compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes Equations
In this paper, we present a Hybridizable Discontinuous Galerkin (HDG) method for the solution of the compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations. The method is devised by using the discontinuous Galerkin approximation with a special choice of the numerical fluxes and weakly imposing the continuity of the normal component of the numerical fluxes across the element interfaces. This allows the ...
متن کاملDiscontinuous Galerkin method for Navier-Stokes equations using kinetic flux vector splitting
Kinetic schemes for compressible flow of gases are constructed by exploiting the connection between Boltzmann equation and the Navier-Stokes equations. This connection allows us to construct a flux splitting for the NavierStokes equations based on the direction of molecular motion from which a numerical flux can be obtained. The naive use of such a numerical flux function in a discontinuous Gal...
متن کاملA Three-Dimensional Recovery-Based Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Turbulence Simulations
Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods have recently received much attention because of their portability to complex geometries, scalability in parallel architectures and relatively simple extension to high order. However, their implementation for compressible turbulence problems is not straightforward, e.g., due to parameter-free limiting for orders greater than first and the lack of a consistent...
متن کاملOn the Necessity of Superparametric Geometry Representation for Discontinuous Galerkin Methods on Domains with Curved Boundaries
We provide numerical evidence demonstrating the necessity of employing a superparametric geometry representation in order to obtain optimal convergence orders on two-dimensional domains with curved boundaries when solving the Euler equations using Discontinuous Galerkin methods. However, concerning the obtention of optimal convergence orders for the Navier-Stokes equations, we demonstrate numer...
